Newssuper, Report Tania Kundu Kolkata, July 1, 2026:

Under the visionary leadership and guidance of Shri Milind Deouskar, General Manager of Eastern Railway, a major initiative is set to transform the travel experience for millions of passengers. Building on the massive success of the “Swachhata Champion” Phase 1 and Phase 2 campaigns, which successfully focused on mass awareness and institutional responsibility, Eastern Railway is now launching the third and most intense phase of this mission: “Eastern Railway is Watching You.” Starting from July 4, 2026, Eastern Railway is taking a zero-tolerance approach toward littering and spitting on railway premises. This campaign moves beyond just awareness; it introduces strict surveillance and active passenger participation to ensure stations remain pristine.

Eastern Railway has equipped its stations with an extensive network of high-definition CCTV cameras and dedicated monitoring staff, meaning every corner of the station premises is now under constant surveillance. Anyone caught littering or spitting will be identified through these cameras, and will be fined on the spot. To make this initiative even more effective, Eastern Railway is empowering passengers to act as the guardians of their own stations. If a passenger witnesses someone littering or spitting, they can simply take a photo of the offender and send it to the designated number. Once the photo is received, Eastern Railway will identify the offender from the image and impose a fine on them. Furthermore, the passenger who sent the photo will be recognized as “Captain Clean” and will receive a certificate from Eastern Railway as a mark of appreciation for their contribution. This unique feature turns every responsible traveler into a direct partner in the mission to keep public spaces clean.

The campaign will have its grand launch on July 4, 2026, at Howrah Station, where General Manager Shri Milind Deouskar will personally inaugurate the program, signaling the start of a new, disciplined era for Eastern Railway stations. Commenting on this new initiative, Shri Shibram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Eastern Railway, stated, “Cleanliness is a collective responsibility, not just an administrative task. With the ‘Eastern Railway is Watching You’ campaign, we are bridging the gap between surveillance and public engagement. We trust our passengers to join hands with us to keep our stations clean and dignified. If you see something wrong, report it—let’s work together to make our railway stations a pride for the nation.” Eastern Railway urges all passengers to cooperate and help maintain the sanctity of public spaces, as clean stations ultimately start with the passengers themselves.
