In a significant passenger-centric initiative, Sealdah Division has opened a dedicated *Central Gate* at Sealdah Station to provide faster, safer, and more convenient access for Mail and Express passengers. The new facility is aimed at easing passenger movement, reducing congestion at existing entry points, and improving the overall travel experience, particularly for long-distance commuters. Until now, passengers accessed Sealdah Station through four major gates—*Prafulla Dwar, North Gate, Main Gate, and South Gate*.
One of the major advantages of the newly opened *Central Gate* is dedicated gate for Mail/Express passengers, providing wider, hassle-free entry and exit with direct access to long-distance platforms and enabling them to reach the prepaid taxi stand located immediately outside the gate without passing through heavily crowded suburban areas.
The dedicated passage serves as a essential safety measure, eliminates the hazardous criss-cross movement , minimizing congestion and especially beneficial for passengers carrying heavy luggage, elderly travellers, women, children, and tourists arriving at Sealdah station.
To further streamline passenger movement, Sealdah Division has encouraged passengers to use the most convenient station gates based on their destination:
*Platforms 1–5 (Main Line)*: Naihati, Kalyani, Ranaghat, Santipur, Krishnanagar City Junction and Gede-bound suburban services. Passengers may conveniently use Prafulla Dwar or the North Entry Gate
*Platforms 6–10 (North/Main)*: Services towards Barasat, Bangaon, Hasnabad, Dankuni and Baruipara. Passengers may conveniently use the Main Entry Gate
*Platforms 11–14(Mail/Exp)*: Dedicated for Mail and Express long-distance trains and directly served by the Central Gate
*Platforms 15–21*: Sealdah South Section suburban services. Passengers may use South Entry Gate
In this context, Shri Rajeev Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah, said our objective is to make every passenger’s journey more comfortable and convenient. The Central Gate is a significant step towards modernizing Sealdah Station, improving passenger movement, and enhancing facilities for long-distance travellers.
The Central Gate has also been designed keeping future passenger amenities in mind. Sealdah Division is exploring the development of an app-based cab pick-up & drop point near the gate and a modern toilet complex, further enhancing last-mile connectivity and passenger convenience. The Central Gate is now fully operational and open for public use, Mail/Express passengers are encouraged to use this dedicated access point for quicker entry and exit, ensuring a smoother, faster, and more comfortable journey through Sealdah Station.
