Ms. Gitika Pandey, General Manager, Eastern Railway, today (October 01, 2026) inspected Kanchrapara Workshop, accompanied by Shri Permanand Sharma, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer; Shri Subhash Chandra, Chief Workshop Manager, Kanchrapara; along with Principal Heads of Departments and senior officers of Kanchrapara Workshop.

The General Manager conducted a window-trailing inspection from Sealdah to Kanchrapara station to review the condition of track fittings, Overhead Equipment (OHE) and signalling systems.

At the outset of the inspection, Ms. Gitika Pandey participated in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and hygiene at the workplace.

During the inspection, the General Manager inaugurated the LHB Coach POH Shop and reviewed the Periodic Overhauling (POH) activities of LHB coaches. She also flagged off a POH locomotive and interacted with employees working at the POH Loco Shed, discussing various aspects of their work and operational requirements.

Ms. Pandey reviewed the Centre of Excellence for LHB Components and inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for EPPFS (Electro Pneumatic Pressurised Flushing System) at Shop No. 27, C&W/Kanchrapara. She also inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for FSDS (Fire & Smoke Detection System) and the LHB Equipment Testing Room at Shop No. 26. These facilities are aimed at promoting technical excellence, strengthening testing capabilities and supporting improved maintenance standards.

The General Manager also interacted with women employees of the workshop and enquired about the facilities available to them. She discussed their well-being and sought feedback on any difficulties or grievances being faced by them, underscoring the importance of a supportive and inclusive workplace environment.

Ms. Pandey also visited and inaugurated the renovated Workshop Museum & Art Gallery. A notable feature of the Art Gallery is that it has been developed using scrap materials, reflecting the creativity and innovative spirit of the workshop employees. Appreciating the efforts of the employees, Ms. Pandey said that she was pleased to witness their energy, talent and patience in creating various innovative items. She encouraged the workforce to continue nurturing their creativity and technical skills.

The General Manager further visited the Coil Section at Shop No. 14 and the Loco Testing Shed, where she reviewed the activities and facilities.

Subsequently, Ms. Pandey held a meeting with the officers of Kanchrapara Workshop, during which a presentation was made highlighting the workshop’s development, achievements and key activities undertaken across various areas. She reviewed the progress and advised the officers to identify areas for further improvement and enhance the overall efficiency of workshop operations.

The General Manager also held a meeting with representatives of recognized unions and associations and advised all stakeholders to work together in close coordination with the administration for the continued development and smooth functioning of the workshop.
