Newssuper Kolkata, April 15, 2026:Eastern Railway commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at its Headquarters at Fairlie Place, Kolkata. Shri Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp and paid homage by offering floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar. Shri Sheelendra Pratap Singh, Additional General Manager; Dr. Mahua Verma, Principal Chief Personnel Officer; and Principal Heads of Departments of Eastern Railway collectively honoured the memory and legacy of Dr. Ambedkar.
Reflecting on the occasion, Shri Deouskar highlighted the monumental role played by Babasaheb in drafting the Constitution of India. He also emphasized Dr. Ambedkar’s unwavering commitment to education and economic empowerment, particularly for marginalized sections of society. He described Dr. Ambedkar as one of the most iconic figures in Indian history and acknowledged his immense contributions to promoting social equality and eradicating untouchability.
A cultural programme was organised, showcasing the contributions of Babasaheb Ambedkar to society.
All divisions—Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol, and Malda—along with workshops such as Kanchrapara, Liluah, and Jamalpur, also celebrated the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar with due reverence.
