(a) Fake TE apprehended at Majherhat station.

Quick thinking by an alert passenger and prompt intervention by railway staff led to the apprehension of an unauthorized Ticket Examiner (TE) at Majherhat railway station this afternoon.

The incident occurred when an unauthorized person, posing as an on-duty railway ticket checker, intercepted a passenger on the station premises and demanded an unjustified penalty. Suspecting foul play, the passenger questioned the legitimacy of the fine and engaged in an argument with the impostor.

Noticing the altercation, on-duty railway staff at Majherhat station immediately stepped in to assess the situation. Finding the individual’s behaviour and credentials suspicious, the station staff acted swiftly and escalated the matter to higher railway authorities and security personnel.

Upon detailed verification and questioning, the individual failed to produce valid railway identification or official authorization and was confirmed to be a fake ticket checker. The impostor was immediately detained and handed over to security personnel for appropriate legal action. Subsequently, IC/GRPS/ Ballygunge registered a case, no- 28/26 dt-20.08.2026 U/S- 204/205/234/235/319(2)/336(2)/337/338/336(3)/336(4)/340(2)/339/61(2) of BNS 2023, against Subhajit Banerjee, aged 32 Yrs.

I urge passengers to always verify official credentials and ensure they receive proper money receipts for any legitimate penalties or fare differences paid on railway premises.

Sri Saxena also appeals to all passengers to remain vigilant. If anyone encounters any suspicious person or activity on railway premises, they are requested to immediately report it to on-duty railway staff at the station or dial the Railway Helpline Number 139 for prompt assistance.
