As part of “Swachhata Hi Seva–2026”, being observed from September 17 to October 2, 2026, Eastern Railway, under the guidance of Ms. Gitika Pandey, General Manager, Eastern Railway, continues to undertake cleanliness and awareness initiatives across its jurisdiction under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag: Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
September 27, observed as Tourism Day, provided an opportunity to reinforce the importance of keeping tourist and heritage destinations clean and welcoming. In line with the day’s focus, special emphasis was placed on cleanliness and awareness activities at railway stations serving tourist, heritage and pilgrimage destinations.
In Asansol Division, cleanliness and awareness activities were conducted across stations, heritage sites and pilgrimage destinations. A Nukkad Natak by school students at Madhupur Station highlighted responsible waste disposal and the proper use of dustbins. Cleanliness drives were also undertaken at Vivekananda Institute, Asansol, Chhota Ambana, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute, Madhupur, Simultala, Andal, Pandabeswar, Durgapur and Panagarh. Special cleanliness and awareness activities were conducted at Baidyanath Dham and Jasidih stations for pilgrims and passengers. At MDZTI, Bhuli, Sports for Swachhata was organised along with post-event cleaning, reinforcing the message of collective participation and responsible waste management.
In Howrah Division, cleanliness drives and thematic branding were undertaken at heritage stations, museum coaches, Swachh Iconic railway sites and tourist locations, with special focus on public toilets and Community Sanitary Complexes. Awareness programmes at heritage and pilgrimage-linked stations encouraged passengers to practise responsible tourism and maintain cleanliness.
In Sealdah Division, cleanliness drives and thematic branding were carried out at heritage stations, museum coaches, Swachh Iconic railway sites and high-footfall tourist stations. Special attention was given to public toilets and Community Sanitary Complexes, while passengers and visitors were encouraged to follow responsible tourism practices and help keep heritage and pilgrimage-linked railway premises clean and sustainable.
In Malda Division, cleanliness and awareness activities were held at Bikramshila, Mandar Hill, Sultanganj and other stations, focusing on cleanliness, waste management, four-bin segregation and public participation. Cleaning drives were conducted at Kalyanpur Road Station, while an awareness programme was organised at Jamalpur Station to sensitise passengers about responsible waste disposal. The Malda Scout & Guide team also organised traditional games at the RPF Training School Barrack, promoting fitness and reinforcing the Zero-Waste Sporting Event concept.

On Tourism Day, our initiatives across tourist, heritage and pilgrimage-linked railway locations underscore the importance of maintaining clean and welcoming public spaces.
