*Sealdah Division Conducts Intensive Ticket Checking and Awareness Drive Across the Division*
• *657 Cases Detected and Over ₹2.53 Lakh Fine Realized in Special Drive*
Kolkata, September 13, 2026 –
In a dedicated effort to promote responsible commuting, Sealdah Division organized an intensive ticket checking and sensitization drive *under the leadership of Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Sealdah Sri Sunil Kr Mahala,* across three major suburban sections: Sealdah–Krishnanagar, Sealdah–Canning, and Sealdah–Bangaon. The special initiative focused on engaging directly with passengers to build awareness around travel rules, curb unauthorized commuting, and encourage better civic habits on trains and station premises.
During the drive, checking teams detected a total of 657 cases and realized ₹2,53,265 in fines. The detections included 346 passengers travelling without valid tickets, 297 cases of unbooked or excess luggage, and 14 instances of spitting and littering. Alongside enforcing penalties, checking staff actively educated passengers about the importance of purchasing valid journey tickets and adhering to permissible luggage limits.
The primary objective behind this intensive exercise was to restrict ticketless travel and protect the convenience of genuine passengers. At the same time, the campaign placed strong emphasis on improving cleanliness across coaches and platforms by discouraging spitting, as well as sensitizing daily commuters about safe boarding and responsible travel practices.
Speaking on the initiative, *Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah, Sri Rajeev Saxena* said, Our goal is not just enforcement, but to build a culture of safe, responsible, and comfortable travel for every commuter. We urge all passengers to always travel with valid tickets, adhere to luggage limits, and co-operate with us in maintaining clean and hygienic station premises. Similar intensive drives will continue regularly across the division to ensure a hassle-free journey for genuine passengers.
