Newssuper Report Tania Kundu Kolkata, June 3, 2026:
How do you connect thousands of railway employees and millions of daily passengers? Through the power of language! To celebrate and boost the use of Hindi and local languages, Eastern Railway hosted its quarterly Zonal Railway Official Language Implementation Committee meeting today at the New Conference Hall, reviewing the progress made during the January–March 2026 quarter. The high-powered event was chaired by General Manager Shri Milind Deouskar and conducted in a true hybrid style. Top bosses, principal heads of departments, heads of departments, the Chief Official Language Officer, and the enthusiastic staff of the Official Language Department gathered in person at the headquarters, while division and workshop officers from across the zone dialed in actively via video conferencing.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Shri Vikram Singh, the Deputy General Manager of the Official Language Department, who greeted the General Manager, Additional General Manager, Chief Official Language Officer, and all departmental heads and members. He then invited Shri Parmanand Sharma, who serves as both the Chief Official Language Officer and Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, to deliver the welcome address. Taking the stage, Shri Sharma shared the fantastic news that the past year has been highly satisfactory and successful for spreading the official language across Eastern Railway. To keep this momentum going, he urged all divisions to organize lively official language programs at their major stations, creating a vibrant environment where Hindi becomes popular among both the hardworking railway staff and the millions of passengers passing through daily. He also encouraged employees to execute the maximum amount of their daily official work in Hindi.
When General Manager Shri Milind Deouskar addressed the gathering, he brought an inspiring and inclusive vision to the table, emphasizing the need to heavily promote Hindi while ensuring its daily application in official office work. He strongly urged all officers and employees who are already proficient in Hindi to actively work in the language, and suggested that training institutes increase their use of regional languages and Hindi to make training more effective. In a move to make travel seamless and comfortable for the general public, the General Manager stated that stations must beautifully balance and use Bengali, Hindi, and local regional languages together, proving that the official language can be developed hand-in-hand with the local culture. He reiterated that major stations should host meaningful and useful programs in the official language while simultaneously maximizing the use of regional tongues.
In an exciting grand finale to the speeches, the General Manager officially unveiled the fresh January–March 2026 edition of Eastern Railway’s headquarters magazine, “Pratibimb.” Following this big reveal, the Deputy General Manager of the Official Language Department led a productive discussion on the official agenda items, and after a heartfelt vote of thanks, the engaging session wrapped up, charting a bright, multilingual path forward for the railways.
Reflecting on the success of the meet, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, Shri Shibram Majhi, issued a statement highlighting that language is the ultimate bridge between the railways and the public. He emphasized that by integrating Hindi with local and regional languages like Bengali at our major stations, Eastern Railway is not just communicating, but building a deeper connection with every passenger. He reiterated the Public Relations department’s commitment to actively broadcasting and supporting these multi-lingual initiatives across all platforms to ensure every traveler feels at home.
