Dum Dum Cantonment Station is now a crucial interchange point for daily commuters. To further enhance passenger convenience and strengthen multimodal connectivity with the opening of Yellow Line of Kolkata Metro. Dum Dum Cantonment station currently witnesses 65000 passengers daily with an increase of 60% footfall.
To meet this growing demand, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division has already introduced new EMU services, extended some existing services, and taken up several major infrastructure projects for improved connectivity and passenger convenience.
Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division has initiated two new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) projects at Dum Dum Cantonment station. With an estimated project cost of ₹13 crore, these works are already awarded with TDC of 9 months. These two new FOBs will provide hassle free movement of passengers from one Platform to another and convenient way for reaching to adjacent suburban railway network at Dum Dum Cantonment Metro Station. The construction work will start after Pooja and likely to be completed by FEB-MAR 2026.
Main features of this projects:
First Foot Over Bridge (FOB): Metro to Eastern Railway Station.
o 6.0-meter-wide FOB connecting Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station with the Railway circulating area near Platform 1, and onwards to Platforms 2 & 3.
o Facilities:
* Escalator on Platform no 1
* Lifts on Platforms 2 & 3 (metro side)
* Lift in Railway circulating area
Second Foot Over Bridge (FOB): Barasat End Connectivity
o 6.0-meter-wide FOB at Barasat (BT) end of station, linking Platforms 1, 2 & 3.
Additional Passenger Amenities
o Development of circulating area
o New “Pay & Use” toilet blocks, including facilities for Divyangjans
o Two additional booking windows on Metro side to manage peak rush
o Platform raising for easier boarding
These projects will significantly ease crowd movement, ensure safer and faster passenger dispersal, and provide improved accessibility between Railway and Metro facilities.
These developments underline the Railway’s vision to not only expand capacity but also to deliver world-class passenger amenities to creating modern, passenger-friendly infrastructure that meets the growing demand of Kolkata’s suburban commuters.
