Newssuper Report Tania Kundu Kolkata, October 21, 2025: Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has successfully executed a comprehensive crowd management plan during the peak travel periods of Kali Puja and Diwali. The Division’s strategic and proactive deployment of resources ensured smooth and safe movement for passengers, mitigating congestion and offering a superior travel experience.
The Division’s success in handling the initial festive surge is a testament to the efficiency of the newly implemented measures. The seamless operation during Kali Puja and Diwali was attributed to the following effective measures.
• 24×7 Dedicated War Room: A specialized War Room is operating non-stop, where senior officers and dedicated staff maintain 24×7 vigilance via real-time monitoring of CCTV feeds. This allows for immediate, coordinated action to manage any developing crowd situation.
• Holding Areas and Queue Discipline: The strategic use of large holding areas proved highly effective in regulating passenger entry. This process was maintained through disciplined queue management, strictly enforced by specially deployed RPF personnel.
• Flow Segregation: Clear segregation of entry and exit gates successfully streamlined passenger flow, preventing bottlenecks in the circulating areas.
• Enhanced Ticketing and Information: The opening of extra booking counters and the active promotion of M-UTS (Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System) reduced queuing at booking windows. Furthermore, the public address system provided proper and timely announcements, ensuring passengers were well-informed.
• Special trains for Kali Puja and Diwali towards Naihati, Dankuni, Barasat, Baruipur and Bangaon from 20/21.10.2025 to 22/23.10.2025.
In this context DRM Sealdah Sri Rajeev Saxena stated that these changes are a direct response to the operational challenges and the paramount need for passenger safety and comfort. By implementing systematic crowd management, we aim to eliminate confusion, manage the high footfall efficiently, and provide every commuter with a safer and more hassle-free journey.
