In a significant move toward social reform and public health, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division has launched a comprehensive high-impact, dual-purpose drive against the sale of tobacco products in station premises across the division and the rigorous implementation of Clean Station protocols.
This initiative is primarily aimed to clean station, focuses on eliminating tobacco-related litter and spit marks, which compromise the sanitation of platforms and also protecting the younger generation from the harmful effects of nicotine and curbing the rising trend of tobacco consumption among students and young adults who frequent the rail network.
By intensifying vigilance and conducting surprise inspections at station stalls and vending points, division seeks to create a tobacco-free environment that discourages addiction and promotes a healthier lifestyle for the youth.
The crackdown is being carried out with strict adherence to legal frameworks, involving the Commercial departments and Railway Protection Force, to ensure that no prohibited substances are sold within station premises.
Beyond simple enforcement and the imposition of fines, the campaign serves as a vital effort to reform the social fabric by removing easy access to tobacco. Through this proactive approach, Sealdah Division is not only ensure a cleaner and more disciplined transit experience for all passengers but is also taking a stand as a guardian of the community’s future health and well-being.
