Newssuper Report Tania Kundu Kolkata: 07 Jan 2026: Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has finalized a record-breaking increase in train services to facilitate the movement of pilgrims for the upcoming Gangasagar Mela 2026. In an unprecedented move, division is operating 126 special trains, a massive surge compared to the 72 trains managed in previous years.
To ensure the smooth execution of this expanded service , strengthening operations Sri Pankaj Yadav, Sr. Divisional Operations Manager, Sealdah held a strategic meeting with Controllers and core Supervisors. Highlighting the Control Office as the “backbone” of the division, Sri Yadav emphasized their vital role in maintaining the flow and safety of the 126 special services.
The meeting focused on the seamless integration of these additional trains into the existing schedule to ensure a smooth journey for the millions of devotees heading to the holy confluence.
During the session, Sri Pankaj Yadav issued a strict mandate regarding operational discipline. He made it clear that the division is functioning under a high-alert and zero tolerance for human error because any form of human error that leads to passenger distress or operational breakdown will be dealt with strictly. Efficiency and safety must remain our only priorities.
Issued directives for Ground-Level monitoring with operational strategy includes:
*Active Field Presence* : Officers and Supervisor will be stationed at important points to monitor real-time crowd dynamics and train movements.
*Maximized Capacity* : The jump to 126 trains is designed to eliminate station congestion and provide frequent travel options.
*Proactive Oversight:* Controllers have been tasked with constant vigilance to prevent any logistical bottlenecks before they occur.
With these comprehensive preparations, Sealdah Division is fully equipped to handle the massive influx of pilgrims, ensure that the Gangasagar Mela 2026 is defined by safety, speed, and service.
