Newssuper KOLKATA- 08 Feb 2026:
In a significant move toward enhancing rail safety and ensuring the smooth flow of road traffic, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division has successfully commissioned Limited Height Subway (LHS) No. 105. Consequently, the Level Crossing No. 105/E, situated on the busy stretch between Rejinagar and Beldanga, has been permanently closed to traffic.
The transition from a manned level crossing to a subway was a complex engineering feat. While the initial box insertion for the subway was completed in March 2025, the project encountered formidable geographical challenges. The primary obstacle was an unusually high water table in the region, which significantly hampered the construction of the drainage sump—a critical component for preventing waterlogging during the monsoon.
This project has been completed by Sealdah Division with a primary focus on public convenience and safety, ensuring that local residents and commuters no longer face the daily hardships of traffic congestion at the railway gate.
