Newssuper Report Tania Kundu Kolkata, October 13, 2026:
Keeping its promise to passengers ahead of Durga Puja, Sealdah Division has taken further steps to improve passenger convenience and manage the heavy rush during the festive season. A new booking counter has been opened at Barrackpore station, while modern toilet complexes at Sealdah and Ballygunge stations have been completed and opened to the public today. The facility at Dum Dum station is scheduled to open shortly before Puja.
The new booking counter at Barrackpore station is located towards the Ranaghat end. It is expected to ease congestion and provide passengers with an additional facility to purchase tickets, particularly during peak hours and the festive rush. Its location will also help passengers make better use of the station’s wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) and access the station through the additional entry point, improving passenger movement and reducing crowding.
In another important step towards improving passenger amenities, modern, airport-style Pay & Use toilet complexes at Sealdah and Ballygunge stations were opened to the public today and at Dum Dum scheduled to become operational shortly before Puja. Designed to cater to the high footfall expected during the festive season, these complexes feature separate facilities for Gents, Ladies and Divyangjan, with emphasis on hygiene, cleanliness and passenger comfort.
*DRM/Sealdah, Sri Rajeev Saxena,* said, these initiatives reflect Sealdah Division’s continued efforts to address the practical needs of passengers through improved infrastructure and essential amenities. We are making focused efforts to ensure smoother movement, greater convenience and a more comfortable travel experience, especially during the festive season when lakhs of people depend on suburban railway services to reach their destinations.
