Newssuper Report Tania Kundu KOLKATA, March 31, 2026:
Sealdah Division has achieved a major milestone in railway logistics with the commissioning of its first-ever Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Sargachhi Railway Station today.*Located on Krishnanagar–Lalgola section,* the terminal has commenced operations under the management of M/s LEAP Agri Logistics (Murshidabad) Private Ltd (LAGS). This state-of-the-art facility is strategically designed to streamline the inward traffic of essential food grains, primarily catering to wheat rakes for the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
- *The terminal boasts a significant operational capacity, designed to handle 2–3 rakes per month, with each rake carrying approximately 2,500 tonnes of food grains.* A standout feature of this GCT is the integration of modern, high-capacity silos, which ensure superior bulk storage, efficient handling, and complete protection against environmental factors and infestation. To ensure a seamless operational flow from day one, the divisional authority has implemented structured shunting charges for movement between the station and the GCT, enhancing service reliability for all stakeholders in the logistics chain.
The launch of this terminal marks a significant leap forward under the Gati Shakti Initiative. By integrating rail transport with advanced storage infrastructure, Sealdah Division expects to drastically improve supply chain efficiency, reduce transit overheads, and bolster food security for the entire Murshidabad region.
