The Thakurnagar Matua Religious Mela stands as a remarkable celebration of the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Matua community, A religious reform movement originated in the 1860s in modern day Bangladesh. Every year, thousands of devotees gather at Thakurnagar to take part in sacred rituals, including the holy bath, reflecting deep religious and social significance.
This year, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the Mela. With meticulous planning and well-coordinated execution, the Division ensured a safe, convenient, and comfortable journey for the large influx of pilgrims.
Anticipating the heavy turnout from across the country, comprehensive arrangements were put in place to efficiently manage the surge in passenger traffic. Additional 05 Mail Exp and 28 additional emu train services i.e, 3.5 times from previous year, enhanced frequency of existing suburban trains helped in easing congestion and ensuring timely transportation for apprx. 60 thousand devotees this year.
Special arrangements were also made at Thakurnagar Railway Station to facilitate seamless ticketing especially for Old age , Divyangjan passengers. Pilgrims were supported by modern handheld systems, enabling faster service and minimizing waiting time, thereby ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
Continuous and reliable power supply, along with well-illuminated station premises and surrounding areas, contributed significantly to the safety and overall ambience during the festival. Robust security arrangements and vigilant monitoring further ensured that devotees could participate in the celebrations with complete peace of mind. Medical booths were also setup for any kind of exigencies.
The success of the Matua Mela is a testament to the seamless coordination and collective effort behind the scenes. Every aspect of passenger service was handled with utmost care, reflecting a strong commitment to public welfare and operational excellence.

Sealdah division, expressed pride in the team’s performance, for collective dedication and coordinated efforts ensured a safe and comfortable experience for the thousands of pilgrims attending the Mela and once again underscores its unwavering commitment to delivering efficient, passenger-centric, and world-class railway services.
