Newssuper Kolkata, 11 Mar 2026: In a dedicated effort to prioritize passenger needs and address the persistent requests of the suburban commuting community, Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway is set to start a series and implement a significant expansion of EMU services.
For a long time, there has been a consistent demand from daily passengers, students, and office-goers of the Sealdah–Gede and Gede–Majherhat sections for improved connectivity and more direct travel options. Recognizing that these voices are at the heart of our service, Sealdah Division has taken a proactive step to transform these expectations into reality.
Starting from March 16, 2026 (Monday), division will introduce additional and extended special services on a temporary experimental basis. This initiative is a sincere attempt by the Railway administration to enhance overall passenger comfort and streamline the movement of thousands who depend on this lifeline daily.
Extended service enhancements for fulfilling Gede Connectivity to provide a direct link for Gede-bound commuters.
• *31227 (Sealdah–Barrackpore Local)* is being extended upto Gede as 31931 UP Sealdah–Gede Special left Sealdah at 09:28 hrs and arr Gede at 12:07 hrs.
• Correspondingly, 31226 will now originate from Gede at 08:26 as *31930* DN Gede–Sealdah Special and arr Sealdah at 10:57 hrs, ensuring a better morning return for the commuters.
• *31431 UP Sealdah–Naihati Local* is now rescheduled to 16:50 hrs and further extended up to Gede as *31933* UP Special left Sealdah at 16:50 and arr Gede at 19:38 hrs, providing a crucial evening link for the Nadia district.
• *Direct Gede–Majerhat Corridor:* Understanding the need for cross-sectional travel and bridge the gap , the existing Gede–Ranaghat and Naihati–Majerhat services have been merged into a single, seamless service— *30144* DN Gede–Majerhat Special—departing Gede at 16:15 hrs and arr Majherhat at 19:28 hrs.
• *Optimized Evening Schedule: * 31333 UP Sealdah–Kalyani Simanta* Local is being rescheduled to depart Sealdah at 16:30 hrs (instead of 16:50 hrs) to better manage evening peak traffic.
*New Dedicated Services for Gede–Ranaghat Section*
To significantly reduce the waiting time between trains and provide better local mobility, three brand-new special services are being introduced:
• *31761 UP Ranaghat–Gede EMU Special:* Providing a crucial morning link from Ranaghat dep at 07:05 hrs and arr Gede at 07:57 hrs.
• *31762 DN Gede–Ranaghat EMU Special:* A new mid-day return service departing Gede at 13:00 hrs and arr Ranaghat at 13;55 hrs
• *31764 DN Gede–Ranaghat EMU Special:* An additional late-evening return departing Gede at 20:25 hrs and arr Ranaghat at 21:21 hrs.
This effort is a sincere attempt to turn the long-standing demands of the public, by introducing these new Ranaghat–Gede specials and extending city-bound services, Sealdah Division creating a more flexible and comfortable travel experience for the thousands of people who are the heart of our railway network.
- Sealdah Division will closely monitor the patronage of these experimental services to plan future enhancements. Passengers are encouraged to refer to station notice boards and official digital platforms for the detailed revised schedule.
