Newssuper Report Tania Kundu *Kolkata: 13 Jan 2026:* To ensure thousands of devotees heading to the holy Gangasagar Mela to reach Gangasagar in time, in comfortable manner, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division has run additional train services towards Kakdwip & Namkhana. Recognizing the heavy surge in passenger footfall, division has immediately introduced 4 additional special trains today, bringing the total service count from 23 to 27 towards Gangasagar, each carrying more than 2500 passengers.
1. *34722 Sealdah – Lakshmikantapur local at 08:15 extended up to Namkhana.*
2. *34726 Sealdah – Lakshmikantapur local at 11:02 extended up to Namkhana.*
3. *34730 Sealdah – Lakshmikantapur local at 12:50 extended up to Namkhana.*
4. *34736 Sealdah – Lakshmikantapur local at 15:50 extended up to Namkhana.*
This proactive measure is part of a comprehensive strategy by the Sealdah Division to provide a “hassle-free” pilgrimage experience through meticulous planning and modern amenities.
To prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth transit, the number of train services has been scaled on real time basis to meet the peak demand of the Mela. To reduce long queues at stations, division is promoting ticketing through M-UTS, alongside additional physical counters. Specialized holding areas have been created to manage the flow of pilgrims. Dedicated RPF and commercial staff are stationed at entry points to guide the crowd and prevent congestion. A massive cleanliness drive is underway. Extra sanitation staff have been deployed at Sealdah, Namkhana, and Kakdwip stations to maintain high standards of hygiene throughout the mela.

Sealdah Division is committed to the safety and comfort of every pilgrim. By increasing the number of trains we aim to make the journey to the holy dip as spiritual and stress-free as possible.
The situation is being continuously monitored in real-time to adjust services as needed, ensure that the spirit of the Gangasagar Mela is upheld with efficiency and care.
