Newssuper Report Tania Kundu KOLKATA, November 18, 2025 – Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division (ER) today implemented a significant upgrade and rationalization of its suburban services, introducing new trains (AC and EMU), extending popular AC Local services to weekends, and implementing route augmentations designed to eliminate confusion and drastically improve last-mile connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.

The changes, which will initially be implemented as special services, focus on enhanced connectivity, particularly for late-evening travellers and weekend excursions.

*New AC EMU Locals for Enhanced Comfort and Connectivity*
Sealdah division is introducing a brand-new AC EMU Local service between Sealdah and Kalyani (KYI). This service specifically targets the crucial late afternoon hours, offering commuters a comfortable and modern travel option. This strategic introduction is particularly beneficial for the Kalyani area, which is a significant for educational and medical hub. The service will provide much-needed, high-quality connectivity for Students and patients.
The service from Sealdah to Kalyani ( *SDAH Dep. 15:10, KYI Arr. 16:32* ) and Kalyani to Sealdah ( *KYI Dep-17:02 , SDAH Arr-18:20* ) on Monday to Saturday with enroute stoppages at Bidhannagar,Dumdum,Belgharia,Sodepur,Khardah,Barrackpore,Shyamnagar,Naihati and Kanchrapara.

*AC Local Comfort Extended to Weekends*
Responding to high demand and aiming to facilitate family travel and weekend outings, the popular New AC EMU Local (Special) service between Sealdah (SDAH) and Krishnanagar City Jn (KNJ) is being extended to Sundays.
The service from Sealdah to Krishnanagar ( *SDAH Dep-11:55 and Arr KNJ-14:20* ), from Krishnanagar City Jn to Sealdah *(KNJ Dep. 15:57, SDAH Arr. 18:20* ) will now run on Sunday as well, in addition to the existing Monday to Saturday schedule for the Kalyani-Krishnanagar AC Locals.
This extension will enable families to use the modern, comfortable AC Local service for their weekend journeys, making travel more pleasant and accessible.

*Metro Connectivity Boost: New Services from Dum Dum Cantonment*
A major highlight is the introduction of a new train service aimed at providing seamless connectivity for passengers using the Kolkata Metro. A new Dum Dum Cantonment (DDC)—Bangaon (BNJ) Local will depart DDC at 20:05 hrs daily, running up to Bangaon.
Another new service will run from Bangaon (BNJ) to Barasat (BT), departing BNJ at 22:00 hrs.
This strategic move will immensely benefit Metro commuters traveling towards Bangaon, allowing for a smooth and stress-free transition from the Dum Dum Metro station area to the outer suburbs, especially during the crucial evening rush hours.

*Route Rationalization for Bangaon-Bound Travellers*
To resolve passenger confusion and streamline operations, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division is planning to augment Bangaon-bound ‘Up’ trains.Trains currently terminating at stations between Barasat (BT) and Bangaon (BNJ), such as Duttapukur, Thakurnagar and Gobardanga are being considered for extension up to Bangaon (BNJ).

This operational rationalization ensures that passengers heading towards Bangaon will no longer have the tension of needing to confirm which specific train to catch during peak time, as the majority of services in that direction will be extended to the main terminal station in near future.
*Additional Passenger Facilities*
In line with the commitment to accessibility, the following additional stoppages have been proposed for the Ranaghat-Bangaon-Sealdah AC Local:
Gopal Nagar and Bamangachhi.
